Making Your Rental Apartment Feel Like Home

If you've recently moved into a brand new apartment, congratulations! It's always exciting when moving to a new home. You may think that just because you're in an apartment, it's not like a real home. Nothing could be further than the truth! You can make even a small rented apartment feel like home sweet home!

First things first, move your things in. Simply by being surrounded by your possessions, you can feel like you're at home. Your things will give the space your own style and energy. Get rid of anything you don't like and replace it with great new things...because there's no better time to buy pretty new things for your living space than when you move into a new apartment! However, don't overfill your apartment with too much stuff, because then you'll have a problem with clutter.

Fill your home with framed pictures of loved ones to give the space a homey flair. Try votive candles in your favorite scent in different rooms of your apartment for soothing warmth. A desk fountain or small fish tank can bring the soothing aspects of water into any room of your new place. Houseplants are also fantastic additions to any apartment. Not only can houseplants add to the beauty of your home, they can improve the air quality as well!

Another great way to really make a space feel like home is to adopt a new pet. Be sure to ask your landlord first, however. Many landlords will allow pets if they're spayed or neutered. Some landlords will require you pay a pet deposit, however, to take care of any possible damage your pet can cause.

When furnishing your new apartment, think colorful touches. A good rule of thumb is to buy large purchases like couches and recliners in neutral colors only, so you can easily coordinate them with any accessories you may want. It's easy to change curtains and throw pillows, not so easy to change a large, expensive piece like a couch.

With a little creativity and hard work, you can turn an empty apartment into a great place to call home!
